One year. 100 books. Check.

I did it.  100 books in one year.Not only that, I was done early at 10 months and a couple days.I first tried to hit the hundred book in 12 months mark starting in 2009, and never managed it, til now (?!).I cannot fathom how I was able to do it this year, of all years, after moving across the country, starting a garden, building a shop, a place to live, a greenhouse, working, and all else that went on our first 10 months off-grid in Nova Scotia.  I still can’t see how this could have been the year.  My best guess is that my health was not the greatest this year, and down time means, usually, I can still read.So to recap the best of the books I (randomly) chose to read in my year:Required reading for humanity:The Sixth Extinction, by Elizabeth Kolbert.(for womanity) Breasts, a Natural and Unnatural History, by Florence WilliamsDid I mention- required reading?Discovery of the Year:Arnaldur Indriðason - I cannot believe I hadn’t found him before, but this Icelandic crime writer’s dreamy yet grimy mysteries are soulful too, and every book's got a new uniquely Icelandic theme.Scholastic's Dear Canada series.  From the Halifax Explosion to the Frank Slide (and those were my first and last), I learned a whole lot about Canada (Ukrainians were interned during WWI?) and something new in every book.  I hear there's a Dear America counterpart.  I don't think I'll start on that.Slow Death by Rubber Duck, by Bruce Lourie and Rick SmithOk, so everyone else has already read it because it was a huge bestseller, maybe even in another decade, but still, it was totally worthwhile to finally read it myself:Orange is the New Black, by Piper Kerman (I'd ever so articulately just say "WOW!!" about all of these, for such different reasons)The Book Thief,  by Markus ZusakRoom, by Emma DonoghueThe Hen who Dreamed She Could Fly, by Sun-Mi HwangMy Stroke of Insight, by Jill Bolte TaylorThe Tipping Point, by Malcolm GaldwellThe Long Walk, by Slavomir Rawicz.Fabulous fiction:Longbourn, by Jo BakerThe Humans, by Matt HaigCome Thou Tortoise, by Jessica Grant (Eek!  Omg, wow!)The Good Luck of Right Now, by Matthew Quick (Cat Parliament!!!!?  I am overcome)The 100 year old man who climbed out the window and disappeared, by Jonas JonassonNotable Non-Fiction:What Makes Olga Run, by Bruce GriersonHoly Sh*t: A brief history of swearing, by Melissa MohrGardening books and memoirs:The Year-Round Vegetable Gardener, by Niki JabbourThe Small-Scale Poultry Flock, by Harvey Ussery.  The only chicken book you'll ever need.Gaining Ground, by Forrest Pritchard For the comprehensive list of the year's reads, I keep this page going.  If I wrote a review at the time I read a book, it's there (Come Thou Tortoise, The Good Luck of Right Now).  There are also loads of fabulous books in there that aren't on this list, because I didn't read them in this 12 months.Plus I didn't even count the stack of graphic novels I read.  With those in hand, and two extra months against the JFIC titles I read (although I say 200+pages counts as a book no matter the cataloguing), this counts as a win by a mile.100 books in 1 year, attempted since 2009
