Nova Scotia: Day 2
The last coupla days I’ve been so tired at night that I can barely get to bed. I was disappointed last night to not have the energy to move my tent to the forest, but I have now. The stars were gorgeous in the dark sky. Owls screech at night, and we think we’ve heard porcupines shambling around and probably deer in the night. We cleared the house. Shovel, broom and crowbar. We piled garbage on any sheets and blankets around, tied the corners, and hucked ‘em outside to haul down to the truck. There were numerous boots, and a few ice skates. None of them seem to match up. Odd things were preserved, the odd list, letter, sheaf of papers or postcard, remnants of the past life of the house amid the molding, rotting piles of paper. So much paper! So much old clothing. We took two truckloads of garbage away. I’m frustrated. I feel like I’ve been cleaning up the garbage of others for ten years. It’s really nice to be here with my dad and brother. Dad is doing the most work. He boarded up the house.I’m used to the ticks now. I sleep peacefully (after a thorough pre-bed deticking). They don’t creep me out, although monitoring for them and picking them off our clothes before they go down socks and waistbands is nearly constant.
